About ENGAGE
What a mess politics is in today!
I really cannot remember a time that the political scene in Britain was in more of a mess than it is today. The Tories have called a general election on June 8th 2017 saying it is because they want the people to give them the mandate to deliver Brexit, well the people did that already on June 23rd 2016 and they are still dragging their heels. Those who are politically motivated know full well Theresa May did not call this snap general election because of Brexit, it was far more to do with Tory MPs under investigation for election fraud but this General Election has turned into yet another Brexit vote. Liberal Democrats who are neither liberal nor democratic totally refuse to accept the democratic decision that was made on June 23rd 2016. The Greens are the same and I am really surprised that those two parties have not joined forces long ago. Labour is in complete disarray and continues wheeling out Diane Abbott to embarrass the party as much as possible and UKIP are now virtually redundant and seem more interested in fighting among themselves than fighting any kind of serious election campaign.
The EU referendum awoke many people up from the political comas they had been in for far too long and they are hungry for politics, trouble is they do not like what is on the current menu and because of this we decided to start a totally new kind of political party called Demos Direct Initiative (Demos is Greek for ‘The People’ & the origins of the word democracy) and it became officially registered on January 30th 2017, thinking we had two to three years to build the party before the next general election of 2020, Theresa May has certainly changed things by calling this snap general election.
In ENGAGE we realised that people were fed up with the outdated Left v Right political ideologies that only seem to keep people shouting at each other rather than shouting at government and it was obvious people wanted something totally different. Today people look at various party policies and like or dislike bits of all parties so we decided to build a party based on debate, working on the principle that if people of opposing opinions actually put their heads together they would find the best solutions to the issues we all face in our daily lives. A form of Direct Democracy within a party system, where every member has an equal opportunity to voice their own opinions and help shape party policies, structure and debate. ENGAGE is built around its own member’s forum where members can log in at their own convenience and join in the debates to help find the best solutions. The collective thoughts of the many will always find better solutions faster than the selective opinions of the few. There is no Left v Right in ENGAGE, it really is about bringing people together in a reasoned debate to find solutions that we can all agree on, we believe that by changing how political parties function and by empowering the membership we can succeed in changing British politics for the better. The policies that have been approved so far certainly have shown us our system is working well.
