GENERAL ELECTION 2019
Oh no, not another election… that is the cry resonating the streets and to be fair it is hardly surprising considing what has gone on over the past three years, since the EU Referendum Vote of 2016. Do any of our existing politicians actually deserve anyone’s vote, the simple answer is no but for those of you who like me who have simply had enough of the nonsense, I urge you not to make the mistake of not voting because I strongly suspect, this is exactly what parliament is hoping for…
The naked truth is, parliament, not just government has lied to the people of the UK for the past three years… All of them saying they can negotiate a good deal with the EU which actually has never been possible nor will any trade deal with the EU be possible until after we have officially left the EU, that is the clear terms of the Lisbon Treaty and as the only thing we want from the EU is a mutually beneficial trade deal then the past three years have been a complete farce and a complete waste of billions of taxpayers money. Parliamentarians should hang their heads in shame for allowing this to go on for so long.
I stood as a candidate in GE2017, here in Poole, Dorset and during the campaign it was clear to me that the Tories were deliberately trying to hand it over to Labour, probably in an attempt to stop Brexit. Inhertance Tax and bringing back fox hunting were obvious discreditors of their own campaign. I am convinced that is the real purpose of this latest farcical, snap general election and considering just how disheartened people have become with our fictional democracy, they might just succeed this time round. You can certainly be sure that Labour and Libdem’s will be out in full force on December 12th and especially if too many Brexiteers are foolish enough not to vote.
When this latest snap election was called, I contacted the then Brexit Party candidate, David Young and stated that I would not stand in this election because I would only be taking votes from him and I truly wanted the Brexit party to do well but then Nigel Farage made the right decision not to stand against the Tories, which I suspect had a lot to do with what I have mentioned above, he would have only been helping Labour and Libdem because he would only be taking the Tory votes away from them. Unfortunately, David Young then decided to stand as an independent and though I do generally believe that he would make Poole a much better MP than any of the other contenders, I know it will be a repeat of GE2017 with Labour & Tory taking 80% of the vote share but Labour will increase their turnout (one way or another) and it could tip the scales enough.
I personally am not willing to risk it and so for the very first time in my life I will have no alternative but to vote Tory on December 12th. Mainly because in the run up to June 23rd 2016, the then Prime Minister, David Cameron clearly stated that the government will deliver what the people decide and I want to use my vote to ensure that the Conservatives do exactly that, not squirm out of it by handing things over to Labour, just so that Parliament can continue being middlemen to the EU. Once we have left the EU, the people can then start looking at clearing out parliament and reforming the democratic process here in the UK but unless we ensure the Tories finish what they started, I am affraid we will end up tied to the EU forever.
The most important thing though, no matter who you will put your ‘X’ against on the ballet paper, people really should not be lathargic in this particular General Election, make your vote count!
