Newtown & Heatherlands Election May 2nd 2019
VOTE MARTY CAINE Your ENGAGE candidate for Newtown & Heatherlands Ward
Why am I standing for election on May 2nd 2019?
Well with the new Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council taking over the running of all three towns on April 1st 2019, this will be the first election for councillors on that new council and I cannot stress enough the importance of Poole getting good representatives elected on to that new BCP Council. As I want good people who have Poole’s best interest at heart to stand for election it would most certainly be wrong of me to ask others to do something that I am not willing to do myself, even if it means I am ridiculed for coming last, yet again, as I did in the local elections of 2014 when I stood as an independent in Parkstone and also when I stood as a parliamentary candidate for Poole in GE2017.
It is imperative that we get good representation on that new council because it is obvious to me already that Poole is going to be coming third in the pecking order on that council, especially if we re-elect the same people who allowed this combined authority plan to go forward in the first place. Of course, they will tell you that it was necessary because it saves money, etc but rest assured whether you elect me or someone else our council tax in Poole is going to rise and the services we receive for our increase will become less. That is already a given no matter who you elect but once these local elections are over, you can be sure the stories of how they have to make furthers cuts will not be short in coming.
So why should people vote for me?
Well I founded my own political party in 2017 and it is called ENGAGE, the name really is what it says on the tin because the core beliefs behind ENGAGE is that politicians do not have the answers, you the people do and politicians, be they local or national need to engage with the people to seek out those answers. Most political parties in the UK seem to believe they know best and do not need to engage with the public and that is why we are in such a mess today. Even when something is completely unavoidable, engaging with the public to explain why something is being done has to be far better than simply ignoring their concerns. Well, that is my belief anyway and one that I will continue to campaign on. Remember what Albert Einstien said… “You can never expect a different outcome by doing the same thing over and over again” and he was right, if we continue electing the same people that continuously let us down, we will simply continue to be let down by them, change will only ever come about by doing things differently.
So who does Marty Caine ENGAGE?
I’m sure a lot of people have seen me rant in the Echo comments sections, I do send in articles of my own but they rarely get printed, I also utilise social media a lot and that is not down to laziness but due to the fact that I am disabled with only one leg and it is difficult for me to know on everyone’s door, so I am reliant on social media and word of mouth as my main campaign tools. Regardless of this forthcoming election, I have also created a community hub that can be accessed by visiting www.pooletonians.co.uk and this has been created because I have grave concerns about Poole losing its unique identity and history once this BCP Council takes over and I know this is a concern shared by many. So I created the Pooletonians hub so that people can share information about all things relating to Poole, not just boring politics but information about local groups and societies, events that are occurring, local news stories and collate things about Pooles’ history. It is a hub for everyone, regardless of their own political leanings and it is totally free to use. Whether I am elected or not the Pooletonians Hub will remain in place and I will continue to engage with others on there. Please do take a look at it and share your own stories about Poole for generations to come.
My pledges if elected on May 2nd…
1) To always engage with those who elect me by whatever means possible
2) To only ever be answerable to those who elect me and never follow any kind of party whip.
3) I will not fall into the bribe system that makes councillors do as they are told in fear of losing the funding for being on certain committees, I will not accept that extra payment as I believe that being on a committee is all part of being a councillor.
4) To explain in full whenever asked as to why a decision has been made that someone else may not agree to and if I have no explanation I will do whatever I can to find the answer.
5) I will keep people regularly updated on what is happening and will respond to any queries in a quick and timely fashion.
6) I will always put Poole’s best interest at the forefront of my decision making and if something is against Poole’s best interest I will vote against it, not abstain.
Those are my six main pledges to the voters in Newtown & Heatherlands Ward, as I fully realise that if I am elected then it is to represent you, not my party and certainly not myself. If anyone has any questions they can comment below or email me at marty@martycaine.com
