Shame on you Theresa May….
Today (25/05/2017), the people of Britain held a minutes silence to show respect to those who had been murdered and injured in the Manchester Arena Terrorist attack on May 22nd 2017. My heartfelt condolences go out to all the family and friends of all the victims of this atrocity and they will remain in our thoughts for many years to come.
Yesterday, a local Tory said I should be ashamed of myself for campaigning and not honouring those killed in Manchester and I responded with “People do not want politicians who will sit in silence, holding a candle when atrocities occur. They want politicians who will stand beside the people and voice their anger with them, at what has taken place.” and I know this is true from the many responses I have had.
So no I should not be ashamed of myself for standing up and voicing my anger at what has happened, if anyone should be, it is Theresa May and the Tories for using this tragic incident for their own political purpose because the only one’s who will gain from suspending the election campaign was the Tories and she knew exactly what she was doing, when she called for that. What authority did she actually have to do such a thing anyway? On May 3rd 2017 Parliament closed and Theresa May along with every other MP in the country became unelected and until after the ballot papers have been counted there are no MPs and no Prime Minster. Theresa May called this snap election to ensure no other party had enough time to put together a serious campaign and then used the Manchester Arena attack to further shorten the time of those who are standing up against this government. The same government that has reduced our police and armed forces so that the people are less protected.
Many people think this election campaign is all about Brexit and how Theresa May needs a majority to get the best deal for Britain. It is nonsense, I believe it had far more to do with the fact 44 Tory MP’s were under investigation and the government were about to be seriously embarrassed. Anyone who knows anything about the EU, knows only too well they will never agree on a deal with the UK, unless of course we roll over and I sincerely hope that is not going to happen. So Brexit will happen after the two years of exit negotiations have failed to come up with an agreed deal and that would happen regardless of this snap General Election. The Tories are certainly putting the Con in Conservative in this GE2017
For the people of Poole, where I am standing as a candidate in this election, I am doing so to give those who want it an opportunity to send a clear ‘We Deserve Better’ message to both local and national government, I have made this quite clear throughout my campaign. I could extend that now to ‘We Deserve Better Protection’ which is obviously clear to us all but the most important thing is, and this applies to every constituency in the country. Forget the party mantra and look very closely at the candidates who are standing because for me there are only two real choices to make when you go to the ballot box on June 8th 2017, either vote for something different or vote for more of the same. Regardless of what political party a candidate is in, vote for those who will stand up and shout for you. A general election is the only real chance we the people get to create real change for the better and we all know that is something that is desperately needed in Britain today.
