Today is 13th July 2017, exactly seven years to the date since Jon (Diamond White) Gaunt lost his ‘Free Speech battle in the High Court, which came about after he had called a Councillor a ‘Nazi’ during a TalkSport interview. You would have thought that in his ageing years he would have learned a thing or two about what is acceptable and what is not, when you are hosting a radio talk show but alas it appears he has got worse rather than better.
I first met Jon Gaunt at a UKIP conference in Exeter when he first joined UKIP. He came across as a chirpy chap with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and not that confident in public. I have listened and even contributed to his Talk2MeRadio show and though sometimes he can come out with complete nonsense remarks, mostly I have enjoyed listening. However, ever since he went on his road trip to America, the show has gone downhill and I actually prefer it when he is away and Nick Magerrison stands in. Of course that opinion is purely based on the fact that I am sick of hearing about Trump and American politics, whilst we have so much going on here with British politics.
Anyway on Jon’s talk show on July 12th 2017, he once again started harping on about America and I simply tweeted “Be British, we know you went on a trip but it is getting boring now”, which he took umbrage over and made some crass comments about how I should play with my little knob…. and got worse from there on!
It all started in podcast two at 24:50
Thinking it was just Jon being Jon, I responded with the following tweet, which was nothing more than pub banter humour and I even added a smiley, just to show it was said in humour and as you can see someone did LOL..
Jon’s reaction to this was quite staggering to say the least, at 28:50 in podcast two he demands an apology within 60 seconds or he will ‘Smash my face in’. I recall thinking to myself that this is the man from the Exeter conference who had difficulty to look me in the eyes whilst talking, suddenly trying to convince his listeners he was a hard man. Anyway, it went from bad to worse and when I responded not with an apology but a simple tweet saying “No apology and I look forward to the exercise” he decided to block me from twitter on both his own and @talk2meradio. I continued to listen to podcast three and heard him say on numerous occasions how he was going to ‘Smash me in the face’ and boast about how he had my number and intended to ring me after the show. Something by this time I was actually looking forward to but alas it never happened.
Here is podcast three and he makes personal threats at 00:05, 01:59, 28:25, 30:10, 32:29 during that podcast.
Now normally I wouldn’t rise to this kind of stupidity but listening to the numerous threats and abuse, plus the fact he was actually sounding drunk (he actually forgot what he was talking about a couple of times), I did get the hump and sent him an email saying he should take legal advice because he had breached Section 127, Communications Act 2003. I received more abuse back from him as a response, how he had fake accounts taking screenshots of what I was saying on twitter and on TalkForum, which I wasn’t even a member of. I have signed up now though just to see why he said that and see what actually is being said on there.
Now up until that point yesterday I had actually liked Jon, a bit of a prat at times but his show was fun to listen to and as an ex serviceman and former stand up comic, I do have broad shoulders, so his threats of violence towards me were laughable, even with my disability. However, had I been a more frail kind of person, his over reaction could have been quite harrowing and that kind of behaviour is simply not acceptable, especially from someone who is supposed to be a professional. Also there is the fact that his reaction was totally hypocritical considering this is a tweet he supposedly sent to someone about their 12 year old daughter….
So here is a little bit of advice to a hypocrite and I hope he reads this and takes it on board…
You know that old saying Jon, about people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones? Well you’ve thrown your stone in the wrong direction. What you stupidly did, for whatever reason, is break the law and there is no one else responsible for that, other than yourself! I will not make idle threats like you did, I will simply report you and let the law take its course. Whatever has got into you since your trip to America, you need to sort out because I think you are heading down a very unhappy road.
So there you have it folks, my version of events with the proof to back it up. I noticed that Jon did not say exactly what it was that I had Tweeted, which made him react in an illegal way but according to him it was too terrible to repeat but the truth of the matter is, it was nothing more than a humorous bit of banter, meant as a joke and he certainly blew it completely out of proportion. I suspect there is as much chance of him taking legal action against me as there was of him following through with his threats of violence of even having the balls to call me after the show, like he shouted he was going to do. Well done Jon, you made yourself look a real prat on your own radio show and I didn’t even have to put any effort into it.
On a brighter note, not listening to Talk2MeRadio between 4 and 6 pm, it will mean I can concentrate more on my law degree, so I guess Mr Diamond White has done me a favour really…
